Get Involved

Interested in helping develop this community garden? Our team is looking for a variety of skills to make this dream a reality.

We received approval and funding from the Ottawa Community Gardening Network  (a City of Ottawa agent) to purchase materials to build the garden infrastructure including: fencing, a storage shed and raised beds. We started building in mid-April 2021, and opened to gardeners the first weekend in June.

We are looking for members of the Hintonburg, Mechanicsville, Champlain Park, Wellington Village, and Westboro communities who are interested in participating in the Goldenrod Community Garden in a number of roles. Please read the roles below and send an email with your name, availability and role to: inbox@goldenrodgarden.org

Garden plots

Volunteers are not guaranteed a plot at this time, however, they will be placed on a Garden Plot waiting list as they express interest through the survey. The Goldenrod Community Garden committee will allocate plots from the list of people who have volunteered, expressed interest, or have expressed a need for a plot in collaboration with our partners at Somerset West Community Health Centre and Parkdale Food Centre.

Volunteer positions

Volunteers are currently required for the following roles:

Vole Patrol - Goldenrod has a vole infestation of (arguably) biblical proportions. Perhaps you have noticed? We are looking for a Volunteer to offer guidance on how to manage/outfox this furry varmint. We need someone to gather info then disseminate it back to members, probably via the Newsletter. Please email inbox@goldenrodgarden.org if you are willing and able to accept this important assignment. This is not a committee thing, you do not have to go to meetings. This is Vole Patrol.

Events Committee - help plan and put on events for next years Community Garden. If you would like to assist in planning and organizing learning, social and community events please email inbox@goldenrodgarden.org to let us know! No experience in event management necessary.
